With over 20 years of service to chartered surveying, Diana Fitzsimons, FRICS is the Chair of Radius Housing, one of the largest Housing Associations in NI, and has been a Belfast Harbour Commissioner since 2016.
Diana Fitzsimons, FRICS is an active researcher in the areas of urban regeneration and planning law and throughout her career, she has published over 100 planning articles and commissioned research papers. Diana has also co-produced and published two books on urban regeneration and affordable housing.
During 10 years as Office Director of Turley Associates in Northern Ireland, Diana worked on some of the major projects which shape Belfast today.
Titanic Quarter, a 75ha brownfield site regeneration project in the centre of Belfast. Diana’s work included the preparation of the initial Development Framework and all subsequent outline, detailed and full planning including environmental assessments, concept masterplans and design principles documentation.
Through liaison with the various statutory agencies and relevant interest groups, Diana was able to overcome issues with zoning, preservation of the historic environment, management of waste, contamination; archaeology; flood risk, traffic impact and public transport issues.
Diana’s work on City Quays, a redevelopment of 8 ha partly developed historic site within the port of Belfast, has resulted in two stunning office blocks and a new hotel along the riverfront, reconnecting Belfast to its waterfront heritage.
2018 marks the 150th anniversary of RICS. To celebrate this milestone, we've launched our Pride in the Profession initiative to showcase the significant and positive impact surveyors have made to society.
The initiative is a great chance for all of us to promote our profession by demonstrating how varied and rewarding a surveying career can be.
