All RICS professionals are obligated to complete a minimum number of CPD hours per year. We remind our professionals when CPD deadlines are looming, however, they may still receive reminders even after they think they have completed 20 hours of CPD activities.
There are a number of reasons why this may be happening. If you have already recorded your CPD activities, but are still receiving reminders from us to complete CPD this year, check to see if one of these scenarios apply.
You recorded part of your CPD activity as "Planned" but never changed it to "Completed".
RICS professionals must manually change Planned CPD activity to Completed.
Your "Formal" CPD activity was recorded as "Informal".
RICS professionals are required to undertake a minimum of 20 hours of CPD activity each calendar year; at least 10 of these hours must be Formal CPD activity. Ensure you have properly labelled your Formal CPD and have 10 or more hours of it.
You have not attended any ethics training for three years.
All RICS professionals must complete Global Professional and Ethical Standards at least once every three years.
When planned and managed properly, CPD is a beneficial career tool for all RICS professionals that operate in a constantly changing environment. It allows them to continually update their skills and knowledge to remain professionally competent.
A diverse range of activities qualify as CPD. Because the system is based on personal assessment, deciding which activities are relevant is up to the individual member.
We have revamped the look and operation of the RICS Member's Portal. The screenshot below shows an example of the new dashboard with your CPD activities clearly displayed on the upper right-hand side.
When you click the CPD link, it takes you to the CPD page where you can record new CPD activities, delete old ones, and review your activity so far.
All recorded CPD activities will be shown at the bottom of the page and, if you need to make changes to existing records, you can delete and re-enter them again.
Remember, all completed CPD activities must be recorded by 31 January.
