After the elections in September 2017, we introduce you to the new board, and their roles and responsibilities.
Our fourth interview is with Omar Zoppi MRICS, who is the board member with special responsibility for RICS in Ticino.
As the board member responsible for the region of Ticino, my role is to act as ambassador for our organisation in the southern part of Switzerland. My tasks consist of regular contact with key players in the real estate market, the organisation of events and the promotion and growth of RICS in the region. I am very proud that several high-profile real estate professionals based in Lugano have joined RICS within the last few years. I am also pleased that the board recently decided to offer the APC assessment in Italian.
My primary goals are to increase the recognition of RICS in Ticino and acquire new qualified members. Furthermore, I will contribute to the increase of the expertise in our profession through the spreading of our values and ethical standards.
I work as senior transaction manager at UBS Real Estate Advisory in Zurich, a real estate corporate finance boutique within the UBS Group. We assist corporate clients and institutional clients with the advice on and execution of large and complex real estate transactions. In addition, our team is responsible for the structuring of complex real estate financing.
I enjoy the lively professional exchange with other members, as well as the international relations with other RICS national groups. For instance, in 2014, I organised the first RICS binational event with Italian colleagues, to whom I still maintain contact and already have had business interactions.
Growing up in a family active in real estate development, real estate has been a familiar industry to me from the beginning. My interest was confirmed during my studies at the university when I attended the lectures of Prof. Dr. Donato Scognamiglio, who motivated me to focus on this field and to write my master thesis on a real estate topic.
