David Poole MRICS, President of Savills Valuation France and Edouard Vitry FRICS, real estate partner at K&L Gates, are the lead surveyors in the British Normandy Memorial project. The memorial, which is to be built overlooking Gold Beach where the D-Day landings took place on 6 June 1944, was designed by British architect Liam O’Connor.
The 20 hectares site will feature a significant landscape setting with a central 'memorial court' and a 'cloister garden' formed by stone piers. Inscribed in the stone piers will be the names of the 23,000 British servicemen and women, as well as the French Commando Kieffer group who died fighting under British command; while a specific area will be dedicated to those from the civilian services who lost their lives in the Normandy campaign.
Acting for the Normandy Memorial Trust, David and Edouard were key figures in providing advice to secure the purchase of the land. The have liaised closely with French planning authorities, with a view to secure planning permission. David and Edouard were also responsible for the pre-purchase Due Diligence including a legal audit, analysis of the public requirements and advice on regulatory compliance.
The Normandy Memorial Trust and David and Edouard’s commitment to the project has helped realise the dream of D-Day Veteran George Batts to finally provide Britain with a national memorial. The Prince of Wales has described the British Normandy Memorial as "long overdue" and says the memorial will provide a place where visitors will be able to "reflect on what we owe to all those who so gallantly carried out their duty with such extraordinary selflessness and resolve."
UK Prime Minister Theresa May and French President Emmanuel Macron have pledged their support for this important national project and have committed to attend the inauguration of the project on 6 June 2019, as part of the commemorations to mark the 75th Anniversary of the operation.
The Daytona 500 is the most prestigious NASCAR race, and ranks with the Indianapolis 500 in US auto racing folklore. The race celebrates its 60th Anniversary in 2018 in a newly refurbished venue, thanks in large part to the efforts of Derek Muldowney MRICS.

Roberto’s surveying experience has been particularly crucial to the Italian region of Amatrice. The area was badly hit by an earthquake in August 2016, causing the tragic deaths of 297 people. In the wake of the earthquake, the Italian non-profit organisation Claps Furlans (Friulian stones) reached out to Roberto, seeking his expertise to help them with the reconstruction of the area.
