Gonzalo Marquesini MRICS is the founder of RenKap, a PropTech company that is helping to scale the delivery of genuinely affordable homes across the UK through the use of its online platform.
Although still in his twenties, Gonzalo is a true innovator in the property sector who is passionate about helping aspiring first-time buyers to buy their first home. The success of his work has led him to present to the UK Cabinet Office to demonstrate how the RenKap model can be used to build more affordable housing around the country.
Gonzalo moved from Argentina when he was a child and lived in Singapore and France prior to arriving in the U.K. He achieved a first-class degree in Quantity Surveying and Construction Commercial Management in 2013 from Nottingham Trent University. Gonzalo then joined Arcadis, where he became a chartered member of the RICS at the earliest opportunity and won a place on Arcadis' prestigious Global Shapers programme and then their Next Generation Leader accelerator.
Gonzalo's desire to help resolve the Housing Crisis came from his own observations of the Private Rented Sector in London.
My partner and I realised that if we kept renting, we would have to wait over 10 years to buy our first home. So we each took out a big loan and bought a boat to live in. We did it and it worked out.
RenKap is particularly focussed on helping 'Generation Rent', those who are currently unable to save for their first home because of the high cost of renting. The company is creating genuinely affordable homes by using its online platform and supply chain to quickly access, review, procure and build affordable homes on small, unused, public sector sites. All the RenKap homes will be delivered through Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) and are 100% affordable via Shared Ownership and London Living Rents schemes.
Gonzalo is an RICS counsellor and enjoys supporting new candidates through their assessment of professional competence. He wants to inspire other RICS professionals to challenge the existing business models in their sectors.
