In January, RICS received official ISO 9001 accreditation following an audit process by the British Standards Institute.
RICS is constantly looking for ways to reinforce and improve its position as the leading independent, impartial and trusted source of cost information and benchmarking data for the built environment.
The data and information product delivery team is responsible for products such as BCIS and bespoke data services.
One of the team’s recent goals was to put our processes through the ISO 9001 quality standard. This involved a review of our management systems, technical delivery approaches and ensuring we drive through opportunities and feedback from our end customers/clients.
The basis of the ISO 9001 standard is to be able to show that we do what we say we do, in a transparent and consistent way. It is important that we measure and improve our performance and that we review feedback, putting plans in place to address it.
ISO 9001 accreditation means that when you use RICS Data and Information products and services, you can be sure that they have been compiled and managed in a controlled and consistent way.

Following various stages of internal and external assessments, culminating in a five-day audit by the British Standards Institute (BSI), we successfully demonstrated adherence to the standard. We received no ‘non-conformances’, which is quite rare in a first full audit. In January 2019, we received our official ISO 9001 accreditation.
“ISO 9001 accreditation means that when you use RICS Data and Information products and services, you can be sure that they have been compiled and managed in a controlled and consistent way,” said RICS DIPG director James Fiske. “That performance and feedback are measured and effects how we do things shows we are constantly looking to improve for our customers and clients.”
Independent audits every six months will ensure that we continue to meet the standard and follow our embedded processes.
