This issue asks how the circular economy can help address the issues of housing shortages and sustainability, while the increased importance of telecoms in real estate also comes into the frame.

Telecoms are becoming increasingly important in real estate, whether in terms of connecting places with one another or grappling with the detail of particular sites.

As many more surveyors find it worth learning how to advise on telecoms in a world of ever-growing technological and legislative complexity, this issue sees Chris Stratton offer some pointers, while Tim Austin looks at the all-important topic of connectivity.

Meanwhile, there have been mixed messages about the UK buy-to-let market – are landlords selling up in droves? Is it still worth buying to let as tax relief for landlords declines? Kate Faulkner suggests the picture is more nuanced, and explores how it varies by region and with investors' different strategies.

On the other side of the transaction, renters are being wooed by a new generation of deposit guarantee services that claim to help those with difficulty finding the money for a rental down-payment; Eddie Hooker examines whether these are as good a deal as they initially sound.

RICS has now also published its Countering bribery, corruption, money laundering and terrorist financing professional statement. This issue introduces the mandatory statement, and future journals will examine different aspects of preventing corruption.

In the meantime, residential surveyors can help keep their CPD up to date by attending the RICS Residential Conference on 4 July, so be sure to check out this year's exciting programme.
