Fiona Famulak

President of Vancouver Regional Construction Association (VRCA)

Fiona is passionate about business and has over 25 years’ international experience, gained in the U.K., Asia Pacific and Canada, working in the private and not-for-profit sectors.

As a current member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland, Fiona’s expertise lies in being able to critically assess a business from a financial and risk management perspective. However her professional experience is far broader and spans corporate governance and strategic and operational planning, with her passion being her love of connecting with people and helping them to succeed.

In her almost 6 years at the VRCA, Fiona has rebuilt the 90-year old organization from the ground up. Today, the association is flourishing with a growing membership base and a professional attitude to the business of construction. As a former small business owner, Fiona understands the pressure facing employers today and that the application of best practice to all aspects of business has and will continue to be critical for construction companies to build faster, greener and more productively than ever before. Under her leadership, the VRCA has undertaken an industry-wide education needs assessment, the results of which help VRCA and others to deliver programming that meets the industry’s future education needs. And, understanding the importance of the industry doing its part to support the climate change goals of both Vancouver and B.C., she led a team that vigorously pursued and secured the opportunity for the VRCA to host Canada’s first and only Zero Emissions Building Exchange (ZEBx).

As a woman in the industry, Fiona is passionately evolving the VRCA so that it is excellent in all it does and inspires the industry to actively encourage and celebrate diversity, inclusivity and equality of all employees across all disciplines. Programs that advance youth and women in construction have been a key personal passion.

Looking forward, it is Fiona’s goal to evolve the VRCA into Canada’s premier centre for construction excellence by 2027 so that it is leading by example and inspiring others as a future-focused, relevant and invaluable resource to the construction industry.
