Quantity surveyors are concerned with the financial management of the building life cycle. In this course, you will learn various procurement options; the production of tender documents; the contractor's tendering procedure and strategy; and the detailed process undertaken by the contractor to price tender documents.
The aim of the course is to provide technical training around the key principles of tendering, estimating and pricing and provide you with knowledge of construction contracts and their financial provisions.
Explore construction technology, contract procedures and construction economics, looking at commercial and domestic measurement, as well as project estimating and management to an advanced level.
This course will give you the skills and knowledge to effectively manage a BIM project at each stage. The feature of this course is a simulated BIM project which will run throughout the course to embed practical knowledge at each stage of the BIM project process.
Cost engineers, Building technicians, Estimators, Quantity Surveyors, Property Valuers, Civil Engineers, Construction Managers, with a minimum of 3 years' professional experience. Gain the skills you need to manage the costs and financial management of building life cycles including the key principles of tendering, estimating and pricing.
Within each module will be dedicated e-learning sessions. Within these courses delegates will gain an understanding around the practical techniques and international standards required within the construction and quantity surveying pathway.
Learners will further study and understanding of the methodologies with the directed reading material. Sourced from textbooks and articles, these readings support development throughout the course program.
Technical case studies provide examples of practice, within these case studies participants will practice the theory taught within the module. Responses will be shared within the online forums.
Questions, comments, case studies will be posted to the forum (one module) with the objective of allowing the participants to reflect on the e-learning and also to discuss their own experiences under each module heading around QS practice.
At the end of each module is a short quiz, to check understanding of the content and to help track progress.
On completion of all the technical modules, participants will be required to attend one 1.5 hour live online web class. The structure of this session is to provide a detail overview of the practices and principles of QS. Provide participants with an open live forum to discuss their own interpretations and understanding of the learning outcomes of the course.

Angela has a Bachelor of Science in Quantity Surveying and a Master of Science degree in Building specializing in Property Development and Management. She is also a LEED qualified professional in the Operations and Maintenance specialty (LEED AP O+M).
Angela has over 16 years' experience in the construction and development industry spanning South Africa, the UK and Canada. She is a Fellow with the RICS and a professional member of the CIQS and sits on the BC Chapter Boards of both (current President of CIQS-BC). Angela's experience is diverse having worked as both as a cost manager, a management consultant and a loan monitor. In addition to working for a Global Cost Consultancy, Angela also teaches part-time at BCIT and for Passive House Canada. Angela is a qualified and active RICS Assessor, and acts as a supervisor/counsellor to RICS candidates.
