Course overview

This course equips you with a foundation knowledge of property valuation. You will gain an understanding of the main reason valuations are used, the role of the appraiser, and the concept of market value and when it should be used. Explore the common valuation methods and basic concepts of each method.

  • Part one - January 14th from 12:00-1:30PM ET
  • Part two - January 21st from 12:00-1:30PM ET

In this course, you will address the underpinning technical concepts and application of valuation methodologies.

Part 1 will review the following topics:


    • What are the main purposes of valuation?
    • What is the role of the appraiser?

Understanding Market Value

    • What is market value, when should market value be used
    • Examples & Activity

Appraisal Methods Part 1

    • Explore the most common forms of appraisal methods
      • Cost Approach
      • Sales Comparison/Market Approach
      • Income Capitalisation Approach


This web series is live, interactive, online training sessions conducted by experienced professionals.

This class will be delivered using PowerPoint slides with discussions and activities integrated throughout to embed the learning.

Jim Andrews, FRICS

Managing Director, Integra Realty Resources

James (Jim) Andrews FRICS has over 28 years of experience in valuation and consulting, with the past 18 spent in the Caribbean.  Based in the Cayman Islands, Jim serves as the Senior Managing Director of the Caribbean office of Integra Realty Resources (IRR), the largest property valuation and consulting firm in the United States. In this role he helped expand IRR’s Caribbean presence to include offices in the U.S. Virgin Islands and the Bahamas. Jim holds credentials in both real estate appraisal and business valuation, and specializes in valuing hotels, resorts, and hospitality businesses throughout the Caribbean.

Jim became an RICS member in 2005 and a fellow in 2008. He has served on various RICS committees including the Americas Valuation Council and the steering committee for the Cayman Islands chapter.  He also holds the following designations:  MAI (Appraisal Institute), ASA in both business valuation and real property (American Society of Appraisers), Certified Valuation Analyst in business valuation (NACVA), and CRE (Counselors of Real Estate).
